Hard wood is preferred, but a nice area rug can really accent a room too.

I prefer an area rug or runner. Hardwood just seems a little too, uh, bare.

Hardwood. The smoother the better! I don’t think he minds a runner from time to time. lol!

He and I are getting ready to put in Hardwood floors this Spring b/c they’re easier to clean and won’t stain like carpet or rug. We’ll probably just put in an area rug or runner across the floor if we do put any kind of carpeting down.

I was born & raised to be a shag carpet kid, and I secretly had a fetish for 2" purple shag back around 1975. However, once I got older and had kids I became a much more practical person. These days my wife and I both appreciate our hardwood floors with simple flat area rugs from places like home depot. The rugs help keep the dust down in the room, they wear well because they are very short nap, and they are easy to replace.
